CELR Course Designation

Community-Engaged Learning and Research uses the Carnegie’s criteria for community engagement as a basis for defining community-engaged learning and research courses:

Community engagement describes collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities* (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. 澳门赌场 purpose of community engagement is the partnership of college and university knowledge and resources with those of the public and private sectors to enrich scholarship, research, and creative activity; enhance curriculum, teaching and learning; prepare educated, engaged citizens; strengthen democratic values and civic responsibility; address critical societal issues; and contribute to the public good.

*NOTE: Some faculty may wish to designate courses that focus on issues related to our own campus – itself a diverse “community.”

Steps:

  1. Faculty, in consultation with their program’s curriculum committees, shall determine if their course should be listed as a CELR course. This process will not be policed by anyone outside the academic unit.
  2. Let your Tme Shedule Mnager know your course is designated as community-engaged learning the quarter before your course is scheduled to be taught.
