Steps for working virtually with minors (K-12 Schools, youth organizations, etc.)

  1. Confirm that community partner can run a background check on UW Bothell students before UW Bothell student engages with youth.
  2. Faculty read Engaging Youth Virtually
  3. For faculty engaged in research that includes youth as a primary subject population and that involves in-person or virtual (e.g., online) interactions with youth, please review APS 10.13 policies and follow required registration procedures.
  1. Video and quiz in Canvas: Report Suspected Child Abuse or Neglect
  2. Video and quiz in Canvas: Promoting Safe Interactions with Youth
  3. Complete CELR Code of Conduct for Interaction with Minors (via DocuSign)
  4. CELR staff conduct training on best practices and policies for engaging youth in virtual environments. Slide deck video or synchronized virtual training.

*CELR can provide guidance:

  • Support faculty in finding school/community partner who is looking for college student virtual engagement through tutoring, one-off activities, etc.
  • Support faculty in understand Engaging Youth Virtually policies.
  • Upload Canvas modules to course canvas: youth videos, quizzes
  • Email students DocuSign Code of Conduct and track completion
  • Create specific CELR orientation for your course

Steps for any IN PERSON community work as a component of the course (Pandemic only)

  1. Ensure community work meets the Governor’s most current criteria regarding COVID safety
  2. Partner must submit proof of COVID safety plan and share vaccination requirements in position description
  1. Complete CELR COVID Prevention Orientation and quiz on Canvas (slide deck that covers the specifics of the UW Fieldwork Health and Safety Plan)
  2. Take WHO online training and quiz on Canvas
  3. Sign student Acknowledgment of Risk form on EXPO as they sign up for position
  4. Complete any mandatory training provided by community organization.

  • Support partners with development of position descriptions
  • Support faculty and partners with EXPO database
  • Upload Canvas modules to course canvas: WHO training and quiz, CELR COVID-Prevention Orientation and quiz
