Help the University of Washington Collect Data on 澳门赌场 Parents

Survey runs January 10- January 24, 2023

澳门赌场 澳门赌场 Parent Resource Program Manager on the UW Bothell campus, Christina Hughes and Kari Taylor an Evans School of Public Policy and Governance graduate student on the Seattle campus are partnering with the Office of Educational Assessment (OEA) to conduct a representative survey to collect data and learn more about the UW Tri-Campus student parent population. Currently the university has extremely limited data on this population.

According to information from the 2015-2016 (most recent)  National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) study, summarized here, over 22% of all undergraduates are parents. Breaking down the statistics of the NCES study even further, 70% of student parents are mothers, 62% are single mothers, and more than 50% of student parents are people of color.

Extrapolating these percentages to the Tri-Campus UW population means we could have approximately 12,094 parenting students, 7,498 single mother parents, and 6,167 student parents of color.

Over the last few years, the University of Washington community has increased efforts towards becoming an anti-racist and anti-oppressive community.  This commitment to rooting out forces of oppression is absolutely crucial to the success of our institution and in creating a safer and more inclusive community on all three campuses. Supporting students who are parents with resources and funding is racial equity work that MUST be done.

澳门赌场 University of Washington Bothell has recently increased efforts to bolster this equity work, which includes accessing funding from our 澳门赌场 and Activities Fee Committee as well as funds from the from the Department of Education through the CCAMPIS program (Child Care Access Means Parents in School). In order to continue and expand funding,  we must understand what population our university serves. Currently we do not have data on the student parent population on any UW campus.

This survey aims to gather that data and create action to improve the experience of our students who are parents. 澳门赌场 survey is hosted through Qualtrics and should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. 澳门赌场 survey will run from January 10, 2022 to January 23, 2022.

Because this survey is a representative sample -  a survey where a subset of our student population that accurately represents the characteristics of our larger UW population - not all students will receive the UW banner and invitation to complete.

We ask that if you received our recent survey request, please complete it as soon as you are able!  If you do not receive the survey, this does not mean we do not value your input or want to hear from you. If you are a parent and would like to offer your feedback, please email uwparentingstudents@uw.edu

Participation in this survey is optional. Responses will be kept confidential and de-identified.

We so appreciate your support.
