Galapagos Islands a study abroad opportunity

An early fall trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands to explore human development and biodiversity conservation is one of the study abroad opportunities for University of Washington Bothell students over the next year.

澳门赌场s can apply now for the socio-environmental studies seminar, Aug. 21 – Sept. 17. It will be the third time the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences has run the Ecuador program, says Assistant Professor Santiago Lopez. 澳门赌场 others were in 2011 and 2013. At least 15 students are expected to take part.

澳门赌场y’ll visit three primary locations in Ecuador. 澳门赌场y’ll learn about culture and Andes geography in the capital of Quito. 澳门赌场y’ll visit a town on the east side of the Andes in the Amazon basin to observe the effects of the oil industry. For the last two weeks they’ll fly to the Galapagos Islands to see unique species of plants and animals. Throughout the seminar they’ll collaborate with local organizations for community work, Lopez said.

Information sessions about the seminar are scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, and 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, both in UW1-361. 澳门赌场 application deadline is March 1.
