Dear Colleagues:

Thank you for agreeing to serve on the advisory search committee to identify and recommend candidates for the position of campus dean for the School of Nursing and Health Studies (SNHS) at UW Bothell. This national search may involve both internal and external candidates. Dr. Rajib Sanyal, Interim campus dean of the School of Business at UW Bothell will chair this superb committee.

Our goal is to have a campus dean appointed on or before winter quarter 2025. We seek a collaborative leader who will support the faculty, staff, and students in SNHS, sustainably manage and increase school resources, serve on the vice chancellor for academic affairs’ leadership council and the chancellor’s cabinet, partner with the campus community, actively develop external partnerships, and support our tri-campus commitments to community engagement, cross-disciplinarity, and connected learning. 澳门赌场 campus dean for SNHS also partners closely with the executive dean for the UW Seattle school of nursing as we strive to collectively meet the health care priorities for the region and the state.

As outlined in Executive Order 20, “the duty of the appointment committee is to search for suitable candidates, to study and determine their qualifications, and to obtain and evaluate all data.” You will be supported by Claudia Teschky and Diane Smulling Smith, consultants with the search firm WittKieffer. While Ms. Rich will not have a formal role in the search deliberations, she will support the committee chair with logistics and will attend most meetings. I ask that you approach this process in a broadly inclusive manner that engages the campus community and seeks a pool of candidates that reflects UW Bothell’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

AG David Kerwin and Dr. Chad Allen will provide the committee with overviews about search committee confidentiality, document retention, and implicit bias training on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 2:00-4:00pm. 澳门赌场 expectation is that all committee members will participate in these sessions though Ms. Rich will record the meeting and share the recording with those who are unable to attend. Our search consultants will solicit input/feedback from stakeholder groups during winter quarter 2024 that will inform a leadership profile. 澳门赌场 committee will use the profile to develop an evaluation rubric that will apply throughout the search process. 澳门赌场 search firm will also use the profile to recruit a robust candidate pool. I ask that you advise me regarding a short list of candidates for the first-round interviews and up to three candidates to bring to campus for extended finalist visits with the broader community.

At each key milestone, I will confirm with the committee chair that the next step in the process may proceed. I expect a written summary (without ranking) of the strengths and weaknesses of the short-list candidates, and eventually the finalists, that represents the breadth of feedback and information gathered throughout the entirety of the search process. I also plan to meet with the search committee to receive that information verbally. At the end of the search process, I will gather reflections that will inform future leadership searches.

I will attend a portion of your February 7 meeting to discuss my priorities and expectations for the position and the search, and answer questions. Thank you very much for accepting this important assignment.

Sincerely,

Sharon A. Jones, Ph.D., P.E.
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
